Brazilian
researchers report that a study has found no evidence to link
nose bleeds to high blood pressure.
As reported
in the May issue of the journal Blood Pressure, a team of Brazilian
researchers tested the link between the two in a study involving
1,174 individuals over the age of 18.
Participants
who used anti-hypertensive medication or who had blood pressure
readings equal to or higher than 160 over 95 were considered to
be hypertensive.
The reseachers
found that the prevalence of nose bleeding problems and hypertension
in the study participants were 15 percent and 24 percent, respectively.
But they did
not find an association between high blood pressure and nose bleeds.
Instead, they found that nosebleeds were positively associated
with history of allergic rhinitis and inversely associated with
years that the participants spent in school.
